Former Harbor Creek soccer standout Kristin Markiewicz started for Buffalo during the Bulls’ historic season.

Markiewicz, a junior defender/midfielder, was one of the key players on a strong defensive unit that helped the Bulls finish 16-3-3 overall.

Buffalo went 9-0-2 in the Mid-American Conference’s East Division to earn the top seed for the MAC Tournament, where the Bulls reeled off three consecutive victories. Buffalo beat Toledo 2-0 in the quarterfinals, edged Ball State 2-1 in two overtimes and then downed Western Michigan 1-0 in the title game to claim the MAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

It was Buffalo’s first berth in the NCAAs.

On Friday, Markiewicz and the Bulls took on No. 4-ranked Penn State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at University Park. The Nittany Lions emerged with a 4-1 victory, ending the Bulls’ dream season.

Through her first three seasons, Markiewicz has started 55 of Buffalo’s 59 games. She was named to the MAC’s all-freshman team in 2012.
