Former Edinboro track and field athlete Tabitha Bemis has been nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Bemis, who received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship this spring, carried a 3.92 grade-point average and was named an Academic All-American three times. On the track, Bemis received six All-America honors over the course of her career, three each in the triple jump and long jump.

She is one 480 nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year, including 93 from Division II. The overall list will be pared to 30, then to nine before a winner is announced in October.

Allegheny’s Jaymee Wallace, a psychology major and English minor with a 3.50 GPA, also was nominated. Wallace, from Bowdoin, Maine, was a senior defender on the Gators’ soccer team, which went 15-7 this past season. She was named the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year and helped the Gators to an NCAC-best 12 shutouts. On offense, she finished with seven points on two goals and three assists. She also placed second on the team with 35 shots.
